WHAT IS A CONSULT-ONLY CASE MANAGER?

A Consult-only Case Manager (CCM) handles cases outside of the team’s geographical service area. As such, there is no need to work in the field or handle equipment. A CCM provides guidance to clients via phone, email and/or private messages on what steps they should take at each phase of their search.

WHAT SKILLS ARE REQUIRED TO BE A CASE MANAGER?

    • Ability to volunteer a minimum of 10 hours a week
    • Self starter and highly self motivated
    • Excellent communication and interpersonal relationship skills
    • Strict adherence to client and team confidentiality
    • Enjoy working as part of a team
    • Ability to attend twice-yearly team meetings in the Twin Cities area
    • Daily participation in the Den, our team internal discussion page on Facebook

DESIRABLE

    • Ability to consult with client by phone, email and/or private messages during daytime and evening hours
    • Knowledge of how to create and edit a Google map

OTHER GUIDELINES FOR A CASE MANAGER

    • The Consult-Only Case Manager (CCM) is the only contact from the Retrievers that will direct the client on what activities should be done on a case unless the CCM appoints another team member to complete a task (i.e., the CCM asks an Awareness Coordinator to contact the client directly for sighting locations to update a Google map).
    • The CM is the only person that has the ability to disengage, re-engage or determine whether or not a case has gone “cold”.
    • If the CCM is unsure whether the case should be closed, for whatever reason, the CCM will send a private Facebook message or email (bod@theretrievers.org) to the board of directors for input and assistance.
    • The CCM is responsible for maintaining consistent updates to the Den

    • Should the CCM need resources such as an Awareness Coordinator (AC), the CCM will post a request in the Den.
    • If the CCM feels it is necessary to create a dedicated FB page for the case, the CM will first ask the client to create the page and make the CCM and admin.  If the client is unable to create a FB page, the CCM will post a request for AC in the Den.
    • If the CCM is unable to fulfill all duties until the case is closed (for whatever reason), the CCM will post a request in the Den for a replacement.
